JavaOne

29 06 2005

So, I finally found some time to write about my findings at the JavaOne conference. The previous nights I was allways so exhausted by the time I arrived in my hotel room that I didn’t find the energy any more to write a blog post. But today it’s a bit better.

Our first day started with visiting all the boots at the pavilion. The most frequently used sentence out there was without any doubt: May I scan your badge please?

I’m not gonna write about every session we’ve attended, because that would take me too far. It’s a fact that not all of the sessions met our expectations, some of them were too detailed, others were too shallow. Of course this also depends a lot on our foreknowledge about the subject.

A very nice thing to do after a tiring day on monday was to go to the JBoss cocktail reception at the top floor of the San Francisco Marriot (where the view is really fantastic). Some nice photos about this party can be found at Michael Yuan’s blog.

Getting ready for the real stuff

27 06 2005

After 2 days of exploring the very nice city of San Francisco (see my pictures at Flickr), we are getting ready for what we came here for: the JavaOne Conference.

The sessions I want to attend today will be mainly about xml and web services. I hope to wright some reports later. (but I’m not very good at that, so don’t expect too much)

Leaving for JavaOne

24 06 2005

Allright, today is the big day.

In about half an hour I’ll be taking the train to our National Airport. From there I’ll be flying to San Francisco via London, which will be my very first flight ever.

Odeo

23 06 2005

Today I recieved an invite to check out Odeo:
Odeo is the place to browse, listen, upload, download, sync podcasts to your iPod (or any Mp3 player).

I must admit I’m pretty impressed. I installed OdeoSync and subscribed to some channels on the Odeo website. OdeoSync then automatically downloaded the latest podcast from each channel and added them to iTunes.

Another nice thing is that I could easily add new audio feeds as Odeo channels. I’ve added 2 feeds, the podcast feed from Gent.blogt and the feed from Smetty’s personal site.

So, Smetty, I don’t know if you have access to Odeo yet, but if you have you’ll notice that your feeds are allready there. But you can still claim them as yours, of course.

And to Evan Williams from Odeo I can only say: Keep up the good work!
